When most people start any new activity which involves continued training the normal expectation is that practice makes perfect. WRONG...practice makes permanent and this is critical when you remember why it is we train in Krav Maga self defence.. It is vital to concentrate on the QUALITY of training rather than the QUANTITY. Train with 100% intensity and focus for an hour and you'll progress much faster and benefit much more than loosely going through the motions of a syllabus with reduced or little effort and realism....FOR 10 HOURS!
Any sports performance expert will tell you that you should focus on technique, power and maximum effort for 50 repeated strikes than just repeating 500 poorlly. Remember 'training' is just that...if your body and brain get comfortable performing certain physical motions and thought processes in a given way....that is what you are training and that is what you are ingraining.
Physically, your training sessions should be demanding too. If your warm up is a '5' on your personal exertion rate, then you really want to get to a '10' physically during at least some periods of your training session. Remember, in Krav maga we are training for situations which are extremely physically and emotionally stressful for the average person. Our training should be under these conditions where possible also (within reason and always with safety in mind).
So, to get the best out of your Krav Maga Academy Scotland training class...
- Training hard
- Train correctly
- Continuously push your physical and technical comfort zone (safely, of course)
This is the way to make maximum technical progress, increase strength, stamina and overall fitness and ability. If this is not what you are currently doing or what you're getting from your club, then change...now! KMAS have classes in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Hamilton, East Kilbride, and across Scotland.
